Bird vs. Social Media
March 30, 2011 at 2:55 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a commentIt had to happen sometime. Yes, you can now “like” Bird vs. Bird on Facebook and stay abreast of any and all minute-to-minute breaking news, show announcements, and hot, hot deals. Seriously. I promise not to post every 15 seconds about having seen an especially fat robin on the way to work.

Almost as good as an Oscar
March 30, 2011 at 2:46 pm | Posted in In the Wide World | Leave a commentYesterday I found out that some kind soul (or souls?) nominated Bird vs. Bird Designs for an Oakland Indie Award in the “Greenie” category. Although I have no expectations of actually WINNING, I’m touched and proud and all that fine stuff. Plus I get to got to the big shindig for FREE!
Tickets for the event are only $10, and I encourage all you Oakland-lovin’ types to check it out. Last year I was there as a vendor, and let me tell you, there was some darn tasty food and drink to be had.
By the by, if you’re reading this and it’s still April 1st or earlier, you can still nominate folks for awards, which includes chiming in with additional nominations for Bird vs. Bird (hint hint).
The Home Stretch, or, It’s Renegade Time!

Phew! It’s been a crazy few weeks, with show after show, late nights of snipping and sewing, and a concerted effort to not spend all my earnings on awesome goodies made by other vendors. This Saturday and Sunday (12/18-12/19) brings the grand finale of the 2010 season, the Renegade Craft Fair.
All the details are HERE, but basically it’s from 11-7 both days and is at the Concourse Exhibition Center in San Franciso. The nice thing is that it’s within walking distance of the Civic Center BART station. Hope to see you there!
Indie Mart at the Academy of Sciences 12/9!
December 8, 2010 at 3:54 pm | Posted in In the Wide World, In Your Hot Little Hands | Leave a commentPeople, this is very exciting. Two forces of San Francisco awesomeness, the California Academy of Sciences and Indie Mart, have teamed up for an evening of science, crafts, music, drinks and more. It goes down this Thursday, 12/9 from 6-10 pm at the Academy (in Golden Gate Park) Here’s the scoop straight from the Indie Mart folks:
In the sea of holiday craft and shopping events, Indie Mart is shooting above all of them like the water spout from a humpback! Prepare for cocktail slugging and gift purchasing near African penguins! Prepare for commerce and clothes shopping near Claude, the albino alligator!
In quite possible the most unique holiday sale ever attempted, Indie Mart is excited to announce that it will unleash this year’s holiday design show at T…he Academy of Sciences NIGHTLIFE! We have personally recruited 50 of the best, most unique vendors especially for this event. It wouldn’t be Indie Mart without booze, free DIY demos & gift making from Workshop, gift wrapping, live printing, and how-to’s on everything from mounting bugs making beer koozies that showcase your fave elements from the periodic table. Fu Kn Cr Zy!!!!Our peeps at the Museum will be closing off the glass atrium for vendors, activities, snow (yes, snow) and even an igloo. If that’s not cooler than a polar bear’s toenails, then venture upstairs where bands AB and the Sea and Boy in the Bubble will keep the skinny jeans swaying and the feather headbands bobbing under the low lights! Cruise back downstairs for DJ’s Ts and Roll spinning in the main hall.
NightLife takes place every Thursday from 6 – 10 pm at the California Academy of Sciences. Visitors ages 21 and older can enjoy music, science, entertainment and cocktails, while experiencing the Academy’s world-class exhibits. Each week is different with the best in music, science, culture, food and entertainment.
Admission is $12, see the Academy’s website for ticket pre-purchase, directions, etc.

Let’s go to Petaluma!
November 23, 2010 at 10:32 am | Posted in In the Wide World, In Your Hot Little Hands | Leave a commentIt’s nearly the end of November, which means a whirlwind of sewingcuttingpackagingphotographing as all of us crafty types get ready for the holiday shopping rush. This year Bird vs. Bird will be at a variety of shows, large and small.
First in line is the Holiday Crafterino in Petaluma, which runs from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, November 28th.

I’m SUPER excited about this event. First of all, I’m very fond of Petaluma. Second of all, it’s a nice size–lots of awesome vendors, but not so many that your head explodes. Third of all, proceeds from the event (the dollar you pay to get in at the door) are donated to charity.
For more info, and to see a preview of the vendors, you can head over to the official Facebook page or visit the Petaluma Downtown Craft Mart page
C’mon. You know you’ll have eaten all the leftover pie by Sunday, so what else will you have to do all day? See you there!

It’s time, people. The 2010 summer Renegade Craft Fair rolls into San Francisco this Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st. It’s at the Fort Mason Center Festival Pavilion from 11-7 both days. Free to get in, tons of awesome vendors, fun activities, music and more.
Head to the official Renegade SF page for all the details I’m too lazy to type out.
I’ll be at booth 130 with all your favorite birdy stuff and (with any luck) a fun new display component. We’ll see if my construction skillz pan out. There’s dowel, right angles and possibly chicken wire involved.
ANYWAY. Hope to see you there. Stop by and say hi!

Mark Your Calendars-Bazaar Bizarre Dec. 12 & 13
November 2, 2009 at 3:08 pm | Posted in In Your Hot Little Hands | Leave a commentWell, it’s November, and that means the hot crafting action is about to get hotter, dare I say feverish, in the land of the Bird.
The floor is already littered with a million infuriating snippets of thread (it’s clear thread, so I try to pretend it’s invisible), my scissors hand is achy, and my brain is ever-so-slightly mushified from watching 12,000 consecutive episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. I know. I KNOW. The plot lines have become insane but it keeps me going when I’m ready to fling the Velcro across the room. ANYWAY.
This holiday shopping season affords will afford you many opportunities to purchase Bird vs. Bird items in person if you live in the Bay Area. Here’s one to get you started:

I’m excited to say that I’ll be a vendor this year. It’s a fun event full of fun and extremely tempting stuff. Plus, it’s in Golden Gate Park, so after you’re all crafted out you can take a relaxing stroll through the Botanical Garden.
Head to the Bazaar Bizarre website for more details on the location and happenings!
Hope to see you there, and stay tuned for more announcements!

I’m excited to announce that exactly one month and one day from now I will be manning a booth at the 2009 Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco. Specifically, the fair takes place Saturday July 18th and Sunday July 19th from 11am-7pm at the Fort Mason Center Festival Pavilion. It’s the second year that the folks at Renegade Handmade have put on a shindig in SF after many years of successful events in Brooklyn, Chicago, and LA. You and find out more about the group and their events
here.
The Yankee Fan and I went to last year’s fair, and there was quite the array of tempting merchandise. I got a rad woodblock printed card of a giant bug for my bug-lovin’ pal JB, and some excellent functional-but-natural deodorant for the Yankee Fan. So….I think you should come! And say hi! It’s FREE, after all, and if you’re all “Hey, Bird vs. Bird! I know your stuff!” I’ll probably be all blushy and flattered and give you a free sticker or something.
Hope to see you!
